Adding Dynamic Content To Your Emporium Mall Listing
First, lets take a look at a standard Emporium Mall listing. The image below has been reduced in size for the purpose of illustration.
- Shop Title - A 25 character title to describe your website.
- Catch Phrase - A 40 character "jingle", "motto" or "slogan".
- Description - A 200 character description of your website. Should be precise and to the point, making use of keywords that matter.
- Additional Verbage - Up to 2 additional paragraphs having to do with some aspect of your website. It can be keyword rich, but cannot be a rambling of keywords. If this information is not provided, we will extract this information from your website for you.
- Thumbshot Image Of Home Page - This image is extracted automatically and will update occasionally as your website home page changes. We use a program called "Thumbshots". At any time, if you wish to request an image update, simply follow this link to Update Your Thumbshot Image.
- 125 x 125 Ad Graphic - This image is primarily used as part of a rotating script that advertises your shop listing throughout the Dreams Alive Magazine website and the Designing Online website. This image is generally provided by you and resides on your server so it can be updated easily at any time you desire. We provide an option to create this image if you do not have one or cannot make one yourself.
- Navigation Drop Down - These drop down bars provide easy access to all the other shops within the current category or provide access to all main levels of all other categories.
- Dynamic Content Area - This area, signified by the red outline (these lines are for illustrative purposes only), provides you with the capacity to provide fresh content to your shop listing page. We provide a template file ( emporium_content.html ) which you can adapt for your purposes and then simply send the file to us via e-mail. This content will appear seamless to the page, until the volume of information you provide becomes too large (exceeds 800 pixels wide). At that point, scroll bars may appear to allow the user to view all the information you have provided. Several templates are provided further down below.
Dynamic Content Guidelines and Terms Of Use
The Dynamic Content Area is a great tool to help you display sales, specials or just create a nice display of your products and services. You are not required to use the Dynamic Content Area, but we highly recommend you take advantage of this dynamic feature.
All the templates below further down include the following characteristics which we highly recommend you do not alter.
- These files are supplimental html files and are not intended to load separately since they do not include the standard html header and footer information. To temporarily view the data in a browser while working on your Dynamic Content, simply perform one of the following:
- For most browsers, the file may load and be viewable without the header and footer information. Before using any of the options described further below, see if the file loads already as is. If so, you can easily modify and view your results without adding any temporay header or footer info. When concluded, save your final dynamic file as 'emporium_content.html'.
- If your browser does not load the file as is, paste the template information into an existing html document to see and work with your information and then simply copy it to its own 'emporium_content.html' file when complete, or...
- Temporarily add this to the very beginning of your document: <html><body> and then temporarily add this to the very end of your document: </body></html> When finished prevviewing your results, remove these headers and footers upon saving your final dynamic file as 'emporium_content.html'.
- The 'div' tags provided in our templates are set to assure the content area does not exceed 800 pixels wide. Do not alter this since the result may lead to the user having to scroll to the right to view your entire page.
There is no limitation on how creative you can be with your information presented through the Dynamic Content Area. These templates are meant only to help you see some possibilities and to also help provide a base to start with. The only restrictions are as follows:
- Code that will create a Pop-Up or Pop-Under is forbidden.
- Code that will activate a program or create a file download is forbidden.
- Code that forces the main browser window to redirect the page as the iframe loads is forbidden.
- Bottom line, anything that society in general has agreed is not a polite and consumer friendly way to interact with the visitor is forbidden.
A violation of any item above will lead to immediate removal of your shop listing. There will be no refunds and no option to reapply.
Dynamic Content Area Templates
The previews below are followed by html code which you can copy and paste into a blank page using notepad, textpad or your favorite html editor. You can just copy the Unformatted Starter Code and make your own unique layout from scratch or use one of the Product Showcase samples to give yourself a start. Feel free to modify the code to create the display that works best with your website products and services.
The images provided below are only intended to show how the template layout would appear. The actual code provided does not contain these specific images or text references, but provides instructions and identified locations for you to place your own information.
When complete, the file must be saved as 'emporium_content.html', not .htm or . php or .js. Keep the file name all lower-case to ensure server compatability. Also, to ensure you do not accidentally delete this file later, you may want to create a directory called "emporium" to place this file.
When completed, reply to our original welcome e-mail and attach the file to your e-mail and we will load it from our server.
For quick copying and pasting, simply click the "Copy Code" button below the code. This feature highlights and copies the code in one easy step. Then just paste the code into your page. Easy!
